APH: Hungary's present

'I object!'
Silence fell upon the meeting hall of the European nations on that late October day in 2008. A deep, uncomfortable silence at that.
'Heh, would've thought you'd be complaining… like you always do' Romania snickered, sitting beside Hungary, who now stood flushed beet red and glaring at the head of the meeting – an old man from the European Parliament.
'Sit down, Ungarn' Austria whispered sternly as he glanced to his right, where Germany stood pale and utterly shocked. Ludwig could not imagine what had gotten into Hungary all of a sudden.
'So' the head of the meeting said slowly 'You do not want to take part in the European Cultural Capital Project, Hungary? Is that what you are saying?'
'N-no!' Eliza stammered and, if possible, blushed even more 'T-that has been my dream for some time now, Sir, and it's the greatest honor that Pécs can fulfill that duty along with Mr. Germany's city, Essen, believe me!'
'Then' the old man replied, and Hungary felt everyone's gaze on her 'What is it you're objecting to?'
She quickly looked at Germany with an 'I'm sorry' sort of smile – though that didn't make the blonde less worried at all – and, taking a deep breath, spoke up:
'I… would like Turkey to take part in the project as well.'
Loud coughing was heard and everyone looked at Turkey, who was about to choke on the sip of coffee he just took. Greece helped his old-time enemy with a not-so-friendly slap on the back which almost made the Turk spit out his lungs.
'You what-?' Sadiq rattled as he finally managed to breathe normally again.
'I-it's just…' Hungary quickly continued, now fixing her flustered gaze on the table in front of her 'Pécs has important Turkish ties… and… thus, we of course, want to have some cultural organizations about Turkey… so it would only be logical for Mr. Turkey to take part too, right?' now she looked up, directly into the eyes of the old man in front of her. She could feel Sadiq's gaze on herself, but dared not look his way 'Also, a lot of Turkish people live in Germany, as far as I know…' she didn't notice how Ludwig gulped at this sentence. He didn't like the where this was going. At all.
'And… this way, Mr. Turkey could also demonstrate how well he does when it comes to a European project. Maybe then even his acceptance in the… EU would be… faster…' her last words were mere whispers as she realized how far she had gone.
'You may sit down' said the judge, and Eliza obeyed, bowing down her head, not even responding to either Austria's censorious words, nor Romania's taunting remarks 'Turkey, please stand up.'
Sadiq did as he was told, smoothening his suit and straightening his tie, wearing the most serious look – well, actually, he seemed kind of serious, because his face was covered by his mask, as usual.
'Miss Hungary has quite the point' the head of the meeting continued 'And I agree with her suggestion. Now the only question remaining is whether you want to accept this duty, Turkey.'
'I would be honored, Sir' the younger man replied in the most proud voice 'My people will be delighted to show the European Union that we are worthy of any task you assign us.'
'Very well. If there are no other objections concerning this matter' here he looked around, but no one seemed to raise an objection this time 'I ask Turkey to hold a presentation of his city of choice and some of the cultural events he would like to hold, let's say… a week from now. Is that alright with you, Mr. Adnan?'
'Yes, Sir' he was practically glowing with happiness as he responded.
'Well then, hereby I declare this meeting closed.'

'Wasn't that a bit too much?' Ludwig sighed as he and Hungary were walking towards the main entrance. Originally they planned to have lunch together and discuss the details on the cooperation of Essen and Pécs, but now Ludwig has lost all his appetite.
She didn't respond, in fact, she was awfully quiet and flustered since she had spoken up.
'Eliza, I'd be lying if I told you I'm happy about this….' the German touched his temple feeling a headache approaching 'Now we have to redo the plans, and…'
'Hungary!'
She froze and bit her lip, but didn't turn around, not even when Turkey was already behind him.
'Eliza, I wanted to thank you' she heard Sadiq say 'And thank you too, Germany' he quickly added, glancing at the blonde 'This means a lot to me…'
'H-happy Birthday' the woman now turned around, but fixed her gaze on the floor 'I couldn't get you anything else and I figured… f-figured this'd be your dream anyways' she said rapidly.
There was a moment of silence, the men glared at her and she was still looking at the floor… it was quite an awkward moment. But then the Turk suddenly embraced the Hungarian and whispered to her:
'That's the most wonderful present I've ever got. Thank you, sister.'
Germany cleared his throat after a couple of seconds and Elizaveta came to. She pushed the man away mumbling:
'Just don't let us down, you stupid swine.'
'I promise I won't, sister' he laughed heartily 'I have to go now, but I'm looking forward to be working with you two' and he quickly ran off, most possibly to prepare his presentation for next week.
'I didn't even know it was his birthday' Ludwig said, looking at the other man.
'That stupid jerk never tells anyone' Hungary muttered and turned around 'But if he thought I'd forgotten about it, then he'd better think again!'
Ludwig let out another sigh. 2010 will be a hard year with these two. Because no matter how she kept denying it, she and Turkey were surely sharing the same blood – and the thought of having to oppose both of them at the same time already gave the German a headache.
